DOROTHY MAY BURNS (nee HENLEY) The family is saddened to announce the loss of our Mother and Nana, Dorothy May Burns on Friday, November 7, 2003 at the Oakview Place Nursing Home at the age of 83 years. She leaves behind her daughter Honore Haines; grandchildren, Kirby Haines (Susan), Kimberley Millar (Wayne), Kerry Miller (Jon), Kitt Boken (Chris), Kent Haines; her daughter Holly Guenther; grandchildren, Leah Sigurdur (Troy), Grant Guenther and Christopher Guenther and her daughter Shelley Finnen; grandchildren, Ashley Finnen and Amber Gallant (Dean) eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband James Ralph in 1974; her son Ralph Russell in 1953 and her son-in-law William Haines in 2001. Dorothy was born on May 12, 1920 to John and Anne Henley, one of seven children, and was the last member of the Henley Clan. She was an accomplished pianist and her love of music never left her throughout her life. After the war, she led a typical military wifes life, making a home in postings all across Canada and would always welcome others to share our table for holiday feasts and Sunday dinners. In civilian life, they resided in Fort Churchill for several years before retiring to Winnipeg. Dorothy spent her summers at her Winnipeg Beach cottage where she enjoyed her family and friends. She lived her life for her family and was always a Lady and a gracious hostess and will always be remembered with love. What ere betides, thy love abides. In accordance with Dorothys wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Interment will take place in the spring, her favourite time of year, where she will be placed to rest beside our father with a private family gathering. We would like to extend our thanks to Dr. Ian Maharaj and the Staff at Oakview Place Nursing Home for the compassionate care that was given to our mother during her stay.
