STANLEY DABRUS 1923 - 2003 Peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2003 at Misericordia Place Care Centre, Stan passed away. He will always be remembered by his wife Shirley; nephews, Greg, Rick (Janet) and niece Trish (Rob). Stan spent his life in Winnipeg. He was an aircraft mechanic at the Canadian forces base during the Second World War. He then followed his fathers footsteps and joined his brother John in the restaurant business, most notably, The Pony Corral. He spent six months in California researching restaurants which led to the new Pony Corral. He had many good times there with the staff and customers that frequented The Pony. After retirement, he continued to take great interest in the Pony Corral restaurants of today and was delighted with Peter and Jimmys success. During his younger years, Stan was a life-guard at Grand Beach and enjoyed skiing and hunting. Stan enjoyed travel, fine dining, his wine collection and had a passionate interest in restaurants. He travelled throughout the world and while in England he met Shirl, whom he married in 1980. Uncle Stans generosity will always be remembered by his nieces and nephews. Stan was one of the first residents of Misericordia Place and greatly appreciated the friendship and care of all the staff. The family would like to thank all the staff for their respect and constant loving care. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 14 at 2:30 p.m. at Misericordia Place Chapel, first floor, 44 Furby St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Stan was my boss nearly 40 years ago at the Pony Coral. We had great colorful discussions on world affairs, and would share a good laugh while watching "All In the Family" during my break. Both he and John were wonderful people, and what an honor it was to work for them. - Posted by: mark silbermann (employer) on: Aug 28, 2014
