KAZUKO NAGASAKA (nee SUGIURA) Peacefully on Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at Riverview Health Centre, Kazuko Nagasaka, aged 69 years, passed away after a lengthy but courageous battle with cancer. Kazuko is survived by her loving husband George; her children, Margaret (Jim) Suzuki and David (Nim) Nagasaka. She will always be remembered as a wonderful Bachan by her four grandchildren, Tracey, Evan, Sean and Rick. She was predeceased by her parents Kiyoji and Harumi Sugiura. She is also survived by her sisters, Izumi (Masahisa) Isogai, Midori Asaoka; brother Yoshihiko (Utako) Sugiura; sisters, Itsuko (Mamoru) Tsukamoto, Michiko (Yoshi Yuki) Hashimoto. Mom was born on March 14, 1934 in Hekinan City, Aichi-Ken, Japan. She married George Nagasaka in 1958 and moved to Winnipeg. She worked as a nurses-aid at Health Sciences Centre until her retirement. She loved to read Japanese literature, knit, garden and watch Japanese movies. She was a gifted Japanese Waka poet and many of her poems were published in Japanese Women magazines. She also enjoyed singing Japanese folk songs. Our family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and nurses at the Victoria General Hospital and Riverview Health Centre. Mom spent the last week of her life at the Palliative Care Unit at RHC. Viewing and cremation service was attended by immediate family on Friday, November 7. Memorial service will be held on Monday, November 10 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., officiated by Rev. Y. Masaki. Interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or to Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4.
