Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN TETTERO John Tettero passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital on Tuesday, November 4, 2003, at the age of 77. John was a devoted father and grandfather and will be fondly remembered by his daughters, Mila and Marcella; his son-in-law Darren Somersall; his grandson Cody Somersall; his brothers, Joseph and Willem Tettero and their wives, Tine and Vera; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. John was born on February 17, 1926 in s Gravenhage, Netherlands. He survived the occupation of the Second World War by spending much of his teenage years in hiding in his familys dry-cleaning factory to avoid being drafted into the German Army. He served his country in Indonesia from 1947 to 1951, and then immigrated to Canada in 1954 with his wife Margaret. John was employed by the City of Winnipeg Municipal Hospital in the Device Workshop where he worked with prosthetics and invented many aids for the handicapped. Johns passion for helping others led him to get involved with many activities including teaching Hunter Safety courses, Drivers Education courses, Project Adventure, Teen Touch, community centre drop-in programs, and foster parenting. After retiring from the city, John began Pembina Massage Therapy Center. In addition to providing massage therapy, he volunteered for many athletic teams including the U. of M. swim team, the U. of M. womens basketball team, the Pan Am Games, as well as for a number of individual elite athletes. Even after suffering his first stroke, he still volunteered at the St. Boniface Hospital Aphasia Club. The family wishes to thank the staff of 5 south at the Victoria Hospital for their care and compassion. A memorial open house will be held on Sunday, November 9 between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. at 843 Lanark St. Family memories will be shared at 3:00 p.m.
