Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD "RICK" RONALD EVERETT Richard "Rick" Ronald Everett of Minnedosa passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on October 22, 2003. Rick was born on November 27, 1951 in Minnedosa where he spent all of his early years. In his early life, Rick was involved in Boy Scouts, earning his Queen Scout Award, played hockey, and was an avid hockey fan throughout his life. After Grade 12 graduation, Rick attended University of Winnipeg and University of Brandon. On June 16, 1972 Rick married Carol Carter of Minnedosa and they began their life together first living in Brandon while completing thier education. Ricks teaching career began in 1974 when Rick taught at Princess Elizabeth High School at CFB Shilo. He also taught at Riverheights School in Brandon and since 1988 he had been teaching at Tanners Crossing School in Minnedosa. Throughout his lifetime, Rick was involved in many community organizations. While living in Minnedosa, Rick was actively involved in Communities in Bloom, Minnedosa Heritage Foundation, Minnedosa Foundation, Access TV and served on the Minnedosa United Church Board. He was also instrumental in organizing the past two town reunions. He was elected to Town Council in 1999 and subsequently was acclaimed Mayor of Minnedosa in October 2002. Ricks life was full of music. Rick was one of the founding members of Manitoba Old Tyme and Bluegrass Society, served many executive positions and remained active since 1991. His greatest joy in life was spending many, many hours of music with his family and friends. Rick will be lovingly remembered by his wife Carol and their children, Brent (Rhona and children, Jamie and Garry), Charlene and Grant; Ricks mother Ellen Everett; siblings, Sally, Lorrie (Wendell), Julie (Jim) and Ted (Susan) sister-in-law Sheila and brother-in-law Terry (Linda) father-in-law Lloyd (Ivy) and mother-in-law Mary (Maurice) as well as many nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his many friends. Rick was predeceased by his infant daughter Angela Dawn on October 20, 1978, his father Glenn Everett in March 1987, brother-in-law Lawrence and nephew Matthew. A ceremony to celebrate Ricks life was held on Saturday, October 25 at the Minnedosa Community Conference Centre. An afternoon memorial service was officiated by Rev. Shawn Ankenmann followed by an evening musical jam session. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Rick Everett may be made to the Minnedosa Foundation, Box 661, Minnedosa, MB R0J 1E0 or to the Minnedosa Regional Library Memorial Fund, Box 1226, Minnedosa, MB R0J 1E0. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel and Pre-Planning Centre, Minnedosa, 867-3868. "Life is a journey. It could be a short one or a long one. It has a beginning and an end. And the best thing we can do is to love one another along the way. So, when the time comes to rest, we can look forward to the next part of the journey and who knows... that well may be the most wonderful journey of all..."
