Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCELEBRATION OF LIFE ILKO (ALEX) HALABUT 1916 - 2003 Refusing to surrender, desperately clinging to the last breath of life, Ilko (Alex) Halabut succumbed to the Lord on November 8, 2003. Last rites were administrated by Fr. Harry Ollynek on November 6 at the Selkirk General Hospital. Alex was born April 26, 1916 in Malniw Mostyska, Western Ukraine. He married Catherine Chachulak in 1945 then immigrated to Canada in 1952. On route he stooped in Caracas, Venezuela in 1948 and a daughter was born. Finally arriving in Canada he made a home for his family where he resided for the past 51 years. Besides his beloved wife Catherine of 58 years, he leaves to mourn his passing, daughter Anna (Ken) Cyr, granddaughter Tracy (Richard) Henzel, grandson Dallas (Monique) Klassen, great-grandchildren, Keaton, Kolran and Danika; also one brother Fred who resides in Western Ukraine. Predeceased by his mother, father, six brothers, Harry (Winnipeg), Nicolas and Mike of the USA, John, George and Nick; three sisters, Pauline, Katherine Horon and Mary Zuk all of Western Ukraine. Dad worked hard and proud on the railroad as a section man for the CNR until he was forced to take an early retirement due to health problems. Dido admirably helped raise his two grandboys whom he adored with all his heart and then joyfully acquired a granddaughter when his grandson married. Dido loved to joke around with them and the three always put a smile on his face... his Keattie, Kollie and Neeka. The family wishes to express a special thanks to his nephew Steve (Olga) Horon for the care they have shown Dad and our family over the many years. May God be with you. Dad always lived by the rule that "families, neighbours and friends should all help each other". Dad, you have been the Rock of Gibraltar of our family. We love you and miss you, but are grateful that you have no more pain and no more suffering. You are in our hearts and in our prayers. May the glow of Gods love light your way and the warmth of His embrace give you comfort and peace. No formal funeral service will be held. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at his chosen plot at a later date. FORGET ME NOT "When you bury me, Bury my faults and prejudice, If you love me, Say something nice to all who knew me, That way I will live forever." VICHNAYA PAMYAT Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
