E. C. (BERT) DOERKSEN On Saturday, November 8, 2003, Bert passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Bert was predeceased by his loving wife Susan in 1997; his brother Wilfred and his grandson Jeffrey Forest in 1988. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Jim (Betty) Doerksen of Santa Rosa, CA; Jeny (Roger) Forest of Lorette, MB; Delia (Ed) Vaughan of Edmonton, AB; granddaughter Kat (Ray) Todd-Schwartz of Sacramento, CA; his brother Elmer (Edna) Doerksen and sisters, Wanda Reimer and Lula (Pete) Reimer, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and very special friends. Bert, who in later years was fondly called "Older than Dirt", spent his youth in Kansas and Colorado, moving back to Manitoba during the Great Depression and spent the war years in the R.C.A.F. Contracting was his game and he worked on many projects including the Little Pic River Bridge, the TCH in Ontario, the airport in Columbo, Ceylon, a large portion of Lake Diefanbacher Dam and irrigation project, the mine in Leaf Rapids, MB and many others. Bert celebrated his 85th Birthday on November 5 with his sister Wanda of Marysville, WA and brother Elmer/Marty of Edmonton who turned 81 on the same day. Bert was a genuine character who loved people, reading, gardening and woodworking. He will be missed by his many friends and relatives who enjoyed long conversations and arguments. He lived life to the fullest, enjoying every minute of it. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
