DANIEL CALVIN MOON (1936 - 2003) On November 6 after an arduous eleven month battle with ALS, Daniel Moon was peacefully relieved of his suffering. He leaves behind his wife, Elsie; children, Daniel Jody and Pamela; and son-in-law, Kevin Kerwin. Danny, as he preferred to be called by those close to him was predeceased by his sister, Sheila (1943) his father, George (1979) and mother, Lillian Violet (1986) and will be grieved by his remaining family of origin, Marilyn Morrison of Winnipeg, MB, Robert F. Moon of Punta Gorda, FL and Diane Bruce of Thunder Bay, ON. Danny was a charismatic, multi-talented man and those who knew him will agree that while viewed by many from different perspectives, he was loved by all. Born June 30 in Kenora, ON he grew up with a great appreciation for the outdoors and at age twelve entered the workforce as a fishing guide for Camerons Outfitters Camps on the Long Legged Chain of Lakes. It was during this time his penchant for fishing Muskellunge became one of his most fiery passions. In 1951 he moved to The Lakehead where he enjoyed a stellar junior hockey career with the Port Arthur-West End Bruins. He went on to play at the amateur, professional, and international level and was inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame with the Marathon Mercuries Hockey Club in September 1986. Over the years Danny earned his living in law enforcement, financing, commercial real estate and banking, always excelling beyond expectation; his hard-driving work ethic established him as an icon of honesty and dedication. In 1991 Danny left Winnipeg and with his wife moved to Amaranth, MB, assuming the helm of the local credit union where in short order he turned that institute into a profitable, viable business. As the credit union grew and improved so did the community as a whole, which was a source of great pride for him; he often spoke fondly of the beautiful area and its residents. Even after moving to South Surrey, BC with an eye toward retirement, Danny remained in close contact with his friend and colleague Ruth Wiebe and the credit union management. The family wishes to acknowledge friends and relatives who have supported and lifted our spirits when we grew weary throughout Dannys difficult but courageous journey. Thank-you to Dr. Eisen, the ALS team at G.F. Strong, and the ALS Society of B.C. and Alberta for their loan of communication and mobility equipment. Our extreme gratitude to Dr. Shukin and the caregivers, nurses and social workers whose kindnesses and compassion gave us the strength to move forward with Danny against his impossible ALS disease --- to the end. As per Mr. Moons request, no services will be rendered. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests contributing in Dannys name to: The ALS Society of B.C. 119-1600 West, 6th, Avenue, Vancouver B.C. V6J 1R3 1-800-708-3228
