HERMANN ERNST SCHULZ February 5, 1914 - November 10, 2003 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Hermann, peacefully on November 10, 2003 at the Concordia Hospital. Hermann is held in loving memory by his daughter Doris, his only child, her husband Roland Wickstrom and grandchildren, Laura and Eric. Also surviving is his brother Heinz Schulz and sister-in-law Gerda and family and niece Karin Warmbier and family, in Germany; sisters-in-law, Susa Funk of Kelowna and Maria Wilms of Winnipeg and their families; nephew Henry Schmidt and his wife Marlene of Winnipeg and their family and many dear friends. Hermann was predeceased by his beloved wife Elisabeth on October 12, 2001; his mother Emma in 1972; his father Hermann in 1945; his brothers, Willi in 1920; Erich in 1945; Gerhard in 1985; Herbert in 1987 and his sister Elli in 1990. Hermann Ernst Schulz was born on February 5, 1914 in Kamerau - Ofen, Westpreussen, Germany. In 1928 he moved to Preusse Stargard to apprentice in the grocery business, eventually owning his own store in 1939. In 1940 he was drafted and in 1941 sent to war. In January 1945 after a serious injury he was hospitalized for nine months, after which he moved to Hamburg, Germany. Having survived the difficult events of the Second World War he was fortunate to meet his future wife Elisabeth Schmidt in Noerten - Hardenberg, Germany. They married on June 4, 1949, had a daughter, Doris in 1951. In 1957 the family immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada. All the following years were happy ones, taking care of his family, participating in church activities and wonderful visiting with their many friends. Hermann worked in various grocery stores, eventually working with IGA until his retirement in 1982. Retirement gave him more time for two of his special interests, reading and following a wide range of sports. He enjoyed time with his wife and their friends, as well as volunteering at Bethania Personal Care Home. After the birth of his twin grandchildren in 1986 he happily baby sat, and as the years passed, he encouraged and enjoyed all the activities that his grandchildren were involved in, particularly soccer games and school functions. In 1996 when his beloved wife became ill with Alzheimer Disease, his strength of character really showed as he devotedly cared for her until her passing in 2001. Dads sense of humour and his love for people endeared him to many and he will be sadly missed by all. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 15 at 10:30 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave. with Reverend Hermann Dueck officiating. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery. Viewing on Friday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m. at Bethania Personal Care Home Chapel. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in Hermanns memory to First Mennonite Church, Memorial Fund, 922 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0M9 or Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home, 1045 Concordia Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2K 3S7. You will live in our hearts always. We love you Dad/Opa. KLASSEN Funeral Chapel 1897 Henderson-North of McIvor - 338-0331
