RENE PICARD Peacefully, with his family by his side, Rene passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at the age of 55. He was predeceased by his father, Marcel Picard in February 1967, at the age of 57. He will be sadly missed by his wife Holly (Hill), son Trevor, daughter Jody (Kevin), mother Odila McCallum, sisters: Audrey (Vic), Celine (Jim), Lucille (Raymond), Peggy (Auriel), Claire (Gary), brother Jean-Claude (Annette), and many nieces and nephews, and he always had a special place in his heart for Hollys Mom, Irene and Aunty Mae. Rene was born on October 5, 1948 to Marcel and Odila Picard (Godin). He grew up on the family farm, and learned at an early age the meaning of hard work. He was always willing to help his brother-in-law in Fannystelle for Harvesting. This is where he met Holly, and they married on October 30, 1971. Rene?s career started in 1967 at Kleysens, where he worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator, and Truck Driver until 1975. Working for Kleysens took him to many places, as far as Lynn Lake, Manitoba, and hauling sugar beets to the U.S. In 1972, Rene and Holly set up residence in The Pas, Manitoba where Rene worked 24/7 for CFI, now known as TOLKO. In 1975, he made a decision to further his education, and became a Heavy Duty Mechanic at The Pas. He started working for Vulcan Machinery, first as Field Technician, and then in sales. He always talked about his experiences at the remote northern communities and in the Arctic. In 1979, they transferred to Winnipeg, and set up residence in Ste. Anne, Manitoba. Rene made one more lateral move to the City of Winnipeg in 1983, to the Equipment and Maintenance Operations. In 1990, he moved into the Training Department, where he became well known to all, and made long-lasting friendships. Rene was also proud of his two terms as Councillor in Ward 6 with the R.M. of Ste. Annes. Rene had a great love for the great outdoors. Hunting and fishing were his second love. He had wonderful stories and memories with all those that shared his adventures. He also would enjoy going for a "quick coffee" and discuss world affairs and maybe even get in a game or two of crib. His family would like to thank all those that took extra care of Rene at St. Boniface Cancer Research, Cancer Care Manitoba, and all the staff of GD6 at Health Science Centre. There will be a Celebration of Renes life by his friends and loved ones, at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 15th at Garry Memorial Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Private family interment will take place at St. Eustache Cemetery at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, ON109-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or please offer your gift of life to Manitoba Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic. It is the gift that keeps on giving. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematorium Hwy. No. 1 E. at Navin, 222-3241
