JOSEPH EPHRAIM BARTLEY July 1909 - November 2003 On November 14, 2003, at the age of 94 years, following a brief illness Joe passed away at the Grace Hospital. Joe married Philippina (Pina) Mathies in 1936 and they shared 63 years together. Joe was employed by the CPR for 31 years, working throughout Saskatchewan and Manitoba. While in Gladstone, Joe retired in 1974 and divided his energies between the Masons Lodge, establishing the Gladstone Senior Centre and together with Pena they competed in the Manitoba Seniors games. In 1994 they moved to Beauchemin Park Place in Winnipeg. Joe joined the Charleswood Legion and became a regular where he enjoyed cards, table top, bingo, VLTs and socializing with friends. Joe was predeceased by his wife Pina in May 2000, son Lyle in December 2000 and son-in-law Robert Hammond in November 2000. Joe is survived by his daughter Myrna; daughter-in-law Shirley; grandchildren, Cheryl Hammond (Edmonton), Heather (David) Ironside (Winnipeg), Kara Dawn Bartley (Ken Hamilton) (Toronto) and three great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Sara and Jacob. The family would like to thank all the care givers and many friends for their support and well wishes. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., with Reverend Michael Wilson officiating. Following interment, a reception will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the Charleswood Legion, 6003 Roblin Blvd. In lieu of flowers should friends so desire donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation or the Manitoba Kidney Foundation.
