VLADIMIR UDUDEC November 24, 1920- November 14, 2003 It is with great sadness that the family of Vladimir (Val) Ududec wish to announce his peaceful passing on the 14th day of November, 2003. Val is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Anni; his son Steven (Lori) and daughter Nell (Ken), as well as his beloved grandchildren, Graham, Alana and Evan. Val will also be sadly missed by brothers and sisters and nephews and nieces in Romania and Canada. Dad was born in Romania in 1920 and married Mom, Anni Schmid, in 1945 after they met in a refugee camp in Trieste, Germany. They wed after knowing each other only three weeks - without even speaking the same language. Dad, Mom and Steven immigrated to Canada in 1952 and made their first home in Toronto where Nell was born. After several years of working for others, Dads independent nature drove him to begin his own business, Ideal Donut. He opened stores in Oshawa, Niagara Falls, Winnipeg, Calgary and even expanded the business into Jakarta, Indonesia. He retired in 1991. To Dad family was everything. Nothing pleased him more than to be surrounded by family and friends on special occasions. He was a loving father and husband and took great pride in the accomplishments of his grandchildren. They were the light of his life. Although he loved his adopted country, Canada, Dad remained a Romanian at heart instilling in his family a love of the traditions on which he was raised. He was a dedicated supporter of the Romanian community in Winnipeg sponsoring many family members and others to come to Canada to share the good life. His generous spirit and desire to help other Romanians adjust to their new home kept him busy. Rarely did a Christmas or Easter pass without Dad inviting newly arrived Romanians, often lonely with families left behind, to celebrate with us and as a result many close friendships were forged. A celebration of Dads life will take place on Tuesday, November 18 at 2:30 p.m. with interment and reception to follow at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. The family wishes to thank Dr. David Young for his many years of compassionate care and the staff of the Riverview Health Centre, especially nurse Diane for her warmth and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Gods finger touched him, and he slept. - Alfred, Lord Tennyson Rest peacefully Mosu. We love you. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. 982-7550
