She is survived by her sisters, Nancy Guttormson (Norm) and Ruth Komishon (Jim). Aunty Et will be missed and lovingly remembered by all her nieces and nephews and their many children who always brought her great joy. Ethel was born on June 11, 1920. She was the second of eight children. Throughout her life, Ethel placed a high value on education and worked as a Ward Aid in order to pay for her schooling. She was in training for three years at Grace Hospital and graduated as a Registered Nurse. After graduation, Ethel worked at Deer Lodge Hospital and then as a nurse for the Childrens Aid Society. After receiving her Certificate of Social Work from the University of Manitoba, she became Supervisor of Placement of Children - Adoption and Foster Home. Ethel retired in 1985 and moved back to the family that meant so much to her. Throughout her life, Ethel enjoyed sewing, knitting, wood carving and Bridge. Many nieces and nephews over the years have benefited from the crafts that Aunty Et created with love for them. The family would like to thank Ethels homecare and the staff at the Waverley who made it possible for Ethel to stay in a place she was so fond of. A special thanks to Dr. Brian Sharkey for his many years of compassionate care. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 25 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
