SISTER ADELAIDE LAUTSCH 1915 - 2003 Peacefully, on November 12, 2003, Sister Adelaide Lautsch (Sister Saint-Patrice), 88 years old, passed away at the Mother House of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Saint Hyacinthe in Saint Hyacinthe, QC. Sister Adelaide was born in Winnipeg and lived in Prairie Grove, in Poland and again in Prairie Grove. She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob Lautsch and Rosalia Schnerch and her brothers, John and Joseph. She is remembered by all the Sisters of Saint Joseph and her sisters, Mrs. Anna Maria Gohl and Dr. Elizabeth Lautsch; her brother Edward, nephews, nieces and their children. After attending high school in Lorette, she joined the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Saint Hyacinthe at the age of 18. She pronounced her first vows on July 26, 1935 and came back to Manitoba. She graduated from Winnipeg Teachers College in 1937 and subsequently received her Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Library Science degrees. Always an ardent, convincing and devoted teacher, Sister Adelaide taught in Lorette, Richer, Saint-Georges, Saint-Ambroise, Powerview and South Junction. Besides the regular provincial curriculum, she taught catechesis, Bible Studies, private French classes and rendered numerous other services. In 1995, she left definitely for the Mother House in Saint-Hyacinthe. Throughout her life, Sister Adelaide was profoundly spiritual and loved to devote much time to prayer. Her devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to the Blessed Sacrament was remarkable. She will forever be remembered as a fervent Sister and dedicated teacher. Her funeral service was held at the Mother House in Saint-Hyacinthe on November 15, 2003 and interment followed in the cemetery of her congregation. Thanks again, Sister Adelaide.
