CATHERINE EDITH (KAY) MATTHEWS Peacefully on November 14, 2003 at the Charleswood Care Centre, Catherine Matthews passed away at the age of 86 years. Kay was born in 1917 in Dublin, Ireland and came with her family to Winnipeg in 1921. She resided on Home St., in the West End for many years before moving with her sister Elizabeth to the Westwood Estates in Westwood. After the passing of her sister Elizabeth she later moved into the Eastern Star Chalet where another sister Mary resided. After a short stay in the hospital in January, 2003 she moved into the Charleswood Care Centre where she resided until her passing. Kay was predeceased by her mother and father, Beatrice and Thomas, sister Ellen Lloyd and brothers, William and George Matthews. She will be lovingly remembered by her surviving sisters, Mary of Winnipeg and Beatrice of Edmonton, AB; also numerous nieces and nephews; grandnieces and nephews; even great-grandnieces and nephews and her many friends. Kay spent most of her working life as an employee of Rannards Childrens Shoes. She had been a faithful member of St. Matthews and later St. Chads Anglican Churches. Kay will be remembered for her feisty Irish spirit and by many friends who were drawn to her warm optimistic nature. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. In remembrance of Kays life a service will be held Thursday, November 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society, 5 Kent Rd., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1S1 or charity of your choice.
