DONALD ROLAND MENARD Peacefully, on Saturday, November 15, 2003, Don passed away at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli at the age of 71 years. Don is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pam; their children, Valorie (Doug) Rach, Donna Holenski, Mark (Kathy) and Steven; daughters-in-law, Joann and Colleen Menard; 12 grandchildren, Shauna (Tom), Darla (Jayme), Brayden, Andrea (Adam), Brandy, Jordan, Jared (Gail), Kris, Blair, Lyndsay, Ashleigh and Tyler; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Shawn, Michelle and Hunter; sister Denise; brother Allan Dollard (Margaret) brothers-in-law, Jerry (Ivy) and Joe. He was predeceased by his daughter Jacquie Lynn; brother Terrance; mother and father Delia and George; mother and father-in-law Mabel and Bill Doll; sister Benita; brother-in-law Maurice and wife Barbara and son Jeffery. Don spent his first 18 years in Fisher Branch, moving to Winnipeg where he was employed at Fairfields Woolen Mills, moving on to the Alberta oil fields. In 1952 he started with the C.N.R., retiring in 1989, then dividing his time between Grindstone Park, MB, in the summers and Phoenix, AZ, during the winters until 2001, when they took up residence in Gimli. His favourite times were at his cottage on Hecla, hunting, skidooing, fishing with square hooks and relaxing. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 20 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, with Pastor Stan Richards officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Jordan and Jared Menard, Kris and Blair Menard, Brayden Rach and Tyler Menard. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dons memory to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6, the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of MB, Ste. 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Thank you to Dr. Jacquie Montoedi and staff at Johnson Memorial Hospital for their care and comfort given to Don over the last 10 days, and to homecare worker Linda Russell for the wonderful care shown to Don this past year.
