YASUO MUKAI Suddenly on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at the Concordia Hospital, Yas (Yasuo) Mukai passed away at the age of 78. Born on August 9, 1925 in Port Hammond, BC, he leaves to mourn his loving wife Fumi of 54 years; his three children, Craig (Rosie) and Kerry of Winnipeg, and Amy (Jim) of Vancouver, BC; his grandchildren, Cathy and Michael Mukai, and Jeffrey Breukelman, and Breanna his great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his brother Bob Mukai; his sisters, Sumi (Tosh) Hoshino, May (Tosh) Mukaida and Sono (Lorne) Tully. Viewing and prayers will be held on Sunday, November 23 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Neil Bardal Inc. Funeral Home at 984 Portage Ave. (entrance on Aubrey Street). The funeral service will be held at the Manitoba Buddhist Church, 825 Winnipeg Ave. at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 24. Yas Mukai came to Manitoba in 1942. He worked on a dairy farm, in the bush camp in Dryden, ON and on the sugar beet farm in Oakville, MB. He married in May 1949 to Fumiyo Hosaki in Winnipeg. He worked for TransCanada Fur Dyers and Dressers and Sterling Furriers. He started his own business in 1983 called The Winnipeg Trading Post, which he enjoyed and worked hard at throughout his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Buddhist Church, 825 Winnipeg Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0R5 and to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
