ELSIE DOROTHY HORNSBY (SORGE) On Thursday, November 20, 2003, our beloved mother gracefully passed away at the age of 81. Elsie was born to Julius and Frieda Sorge, May 1, 1922 in Whitemouth, MB. She moved to Winnipeg in 1927 with her family. She grew up on Ross Ave. and was a member of the McDermot Baptist Church where she spent many happy years in the choir and singing duets with her twin sister Linda and as a quartet with her three sisters. Elsie attended Daniel McIntyre High School. She was married in 1945 to Harold Hornsby (deceased 1987). They lived in Roblin, Beausejour and finally settled in Winnipeg to raise their family of four boys and one girl. Elsie then became a member of Regents Park United Church and enjoyed being in the choir there for many years. She worked at The Bay, jewellery department and retired from there in 1982. One of her many passions was sewing for herself and her daughter. She became such a master at the machine she ended up with a little dress making business. She also loved to fish. She and Harold purchased a cottage at Malachi, ON in the early 80s and she spent many happy days with her children and grandchildren, fishing, playing games, and just enjoying life. Elsie became a volunteer councillor for "Its A New Day" and enjoyed her work there helping people who needed prayer and healing. She joined Springs of the Living Water Church when it first began and has been a member ever since. Her greatest gift was as a mother. She was always there for her children and grandchildren. She raised five children with a soft hand, a gentle heart and a caring ear. She was a graceful and loving lady all her days. She has touched many hearts and brought much happiness to family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Hospital for always treating our mother with the respect and kindness she so much deserved. Thank you all. We celebrate her life and mourn her passing. She will be missed by her family: sons, Lloyd (Judy), Cam (Wendy), Doug, Wade (Jackie) and daughter Shelley Marien (Irv.) and daughter-in-law Linda; grandchildren, Christy, Anne (John), Duane, Michelle (Tyler), Harley, Jordan, Ryan, Matthew (Jayme) and new arrival to Matt and Jayme, Jace; sisters, Betty and Lillian of California; and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Winnipeg and California. She will also be missed by her Scrabble buddies, Vi and Ruth, and dear friends, Lorne, Nancy, Gord, Joy and Sandee. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, November 24 at 1:00 p.m. in the Springs Church, 595 Lagimodiere Blvd. with a private family interment to follow.
