Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAURA HELEN FARR (SUTHERLAND) Born October 16, 1934, in Loreburn, SK. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a remarkable woman, loving mother and grandmother, devoted wife and friend. On Sunday, November 16, 2003, Laura passed away after a courageous struggle with cancer. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Laura is survived by her husband John; and their cat "Toby;" daughter Kathryn; and numerous grand (foster) children; son Daniel; daughter-in-law Laurie; and grandchildren, Logan and Jonathan; sisters, Marian (Percy) Norton and Velva (Gary) Garrison; brother Colin (Bette) Sutherland; and many nieces, nephews and wonderful supportive family friends. Laura was predeceased by her two brothers, Les (Eileen) Sutherland and Murray (Yvonne) Sutherland. Laura was a wife, mother and grandmother, devoted to her family. She was a teacher, a mentor, a seeker, a story teller, a traveler and a friend. After early retirement from nearly 25 years spent teaching for Winnipeg School Division, Laura and her husband John moved from Winnipeg to Sidney, BC, in 1989 and then accepted teaching assignments overseas. Upon their return to Sidney from South East Asia in 1995, Laura began volunteer work with Ten Thousand Villages, and later she and John opened the store in Sidney which they managed until her illness in January. Laura embraced the vision of this charitable organization and made many wonderful friends. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported Laura and the family through this difficult time. Lauras family is grateful for the care and attention of her doctor and friend, Dr. Valerie Cowan, and all the compassionate assistance from the Palliative Care Unit at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
