EDWARD KOWALSKI Edward Kowalski, beloved father of Sr. Grace (Teresa) Kowalski peacefully passed away at the age of 90 in the early morning of November 22, 2003 at Concordia Hospital. He was born on September 5, 1913 in Gniezno, Poland. Edward served in the Polish Army during the Second World War and was later detained in a work camp in Germany. While in Germany he met and married his wife Wladzia. They had an only daughter Teresa (Sr. Grace Kowalski, O.S.B.). Edward immigrated to Canada in 1948 and was followed a year later by his little family. They resided in Winnipeg where he was employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway until his retirement in 1978. He was a faithful parishioner of Holy Ghost Parish, an Oblate of the Sisters of St. Benedict and a member of the Polish Combatants Association of Canada #13 and the Royal Legion Branch No. 034. Edward was a very private person who valued his independence. Upon the death of his beloved wife Wladzia in 1992, he personally assumed total care of his home. He became competent and proud of preparing several favourite dishes and mastered all the household chores. He took pride in what he did. Among his proudest accomplishments were his garden, especially his tomatoes which he grew from seed and his magnificent rose garden which he created in his wifes memory. In summer he enjoyed fishing and in winter he liked to play cribbage, watch game shows and keep up with the news from around the world. He was an avid reader both in the English and Polish languages and enjoyed his Sunday evening card games with his group of faithful friends. He was a frequenter of The Perkins Family Restaurant on McPhillips. His one great love and joy in later life was his dog Corkie whom he faithfully exercised in the out of doors regardless of the weather. Edward was predeceased by his wife Wladzia, his parents, and brothers Roman and Stefan, both of Poland. He is survived by his only child, Sr. Grace (Teresa) Kowalski, O.S.B., his sister Czesia and numerous nieces and nephews in Poland, and several close family friends, especially Joseph and Sophie Bosak of Selkirk, Manitoba. Sr. Grace would like to acknowledge with heartfelt gratitude Drs. P. Galbraithe and T. Babick and the staff of Concordia Hospital, Units 3N and 2N for their compassionate and tender care of her father. Gratitude is also extended to the Sisters of St. Benedict for their prayerful support and friendship of "tatus" and to the many loyal friends for their visits, comfort and friendship. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Benedicts Monastery Chapel, 225 Masters Avenue, Winnipeg, with Msgr. L. McCloskey presiding. Interment will follow at St. Benedicts Monastery Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Edwards memory to St. Benedicts Foundation, 225 Masters Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R4A 2A1. I love you tatus. I truly admired and respected you. You will be deeply missed. Rest in Peace. Cropo Funeral Chapel 586-8044
