Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES GORDON ALLAN 1920 - 2003 Jim passed away on November 22, 2003 at Grace Hospital. His memory will be cherished by his wife of 53 years Evelyn (nee Lindsay) sons, Bill (Ann) of Williamstown, ON and Dr. Donald Allan (Lorraine) of Winnipeg; and his adored grandson Brendan; sister-in-law Dorothy Browne (Ernie) brother-in-law John Lindsay; stepbrother Len Reid (Evelyn) and sister-in-law Ethel Reid; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his precious daughter Valerie Reeve and son-in-law Kevin in 2001; his parents, Emily and George; his brother George Allan; four stepbrothers; four stepsisters; and his mother-in-law Mildred Lindsay. Jim graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate in 1937. He went to work for the G. MacLean Co. until 1941 when he joined the R.C.A.F. training in St. Thomas, ON and Dauphin, MB where he was the gold medal winner in Electrical. In 1943 he was stationed overseas in Tholthrope, Yorkshire No. 8 Bomber Command working on aircraft and ground control electrical. On his return home he joined City Hydro at Slave Falls, then Winnipeg Electric and Manitoba Hydro for a combined service of over 34 years. He retired in 1981 as Office Supervisor of the Collection Department. He built three homes in the St. James area. During the time he built the first home he graduated with honours from the Canadian Credit Institute. Jim loved to travel and when the children were young travelled to all parts of Canada and the United States with the trailer to such places as Expo and Disneyland. Later Ev and Jim travelled to England, Scotland, Ireland, Barbados, Mexico, Cruises, Florida and many times to Hawaii which was his favourite. He enjoyed travelling with the Manitoba Hydro X Seniors Club until he could no longer walk. He loved a game of cards, golfing with his buddies from work and his sons and brothers. Curling was a joy to him and he had many wonderful years with the Deer Lodge Well-To-Doers Club. Ev and Jim bowled with the St. James Lawn Bowling Club. Jim was a kind loving husband and father, always the perfect gentleman and a genteel man with a wonderful smile that everyone will remember and always a "Thank You". The family would like to thank the Golden West for his social outing on Wednesday which he so enjoyed, also the wonderful nurses on 3 North at Grace Hospital who were so kind to him. In keeping with Jims wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or a charity of your choice.
