RONALD B. GAY Passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 23, 2003 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 95 years. Predeceased by his wife Evelyn, daughter Coralie Lawrence and brother Linden Gay, he is survived by his daughter Lesley Campbell and husband Bruce, son-in-law Brian Lawrence and brother-in-law James A. Hillman. Fondly remembered by grandchildren, Craig Lawrence (Lisa), Ian Lawrence (Pamela), Brock Campbell (Jennifer) and Nancy Campbell (Douglas Laxdal) and great-grandchildren, Quinn, McKenah, Matthew, Jack, Gabrielle, Joseph, Clayton, Ford, Kai and Reid. He was a devoted family man and was held in high-esteem by his children and grandchildren. Ron was born in Winnipeg in 1907 where he lived his entire life. He graduated from Kelvin High School and attended the University of Manitoba for two years where he was a charter member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Family circumstances forced him to leave school to help support his family. He was employed by the London Life Insurance Company for 45 years where he met his wife Evelyn. Throughout his life he was an avid athlete. He played football for the Winnipeg "Pegs" (precursor to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers) and was chosen to play on a national rugby team to play in Japan in 1932. He was a track star, basketball player, curler, golfer and hunter. Ron excelled in all sports. Ron was associated with St. Andrews River Heights United Church since his childhood and was an active parishioner. He became a Shriner and was honoured by being appointed Potentate of the Khartum Temple in 1975. He was a member of the Southwood Golf and Country Club, the Winnipeg Winter Club and various groups associated with the Scottish Rite and Shriners. He was an outgoing, hardworking, fun-loving, kind man who lived life to its fullest. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or a charity of your choice. Memorial service for Ron will be held on Wednesday, November 26, at 3:00 p.m., at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre.
