BELLE ROSNER Sunday, November 23, 2003, Belle Rosner, aged 92, passed away at home, as was her wish. She was a wonderful woman for whom family was of the utmost importance. Her two children, her son Bruce (Susan) and her daughter Gail Fine (Irwin) grandchildren, Kimberly, Adam, Jamie Rosner; Julie and Jonathan Fine survive Belle. Her husband, Sam, her parents Molly and Charles Lubart, and her two sisters Eva Rusen and Sophie Marder predeceased her. Belle was born December 18, 1910 in Winnipeg. She attended St. Johns High School and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Manitoba. She was a lifetime member of Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority, Shaarey Zedek Synagogue Sisterhood and the Lillian Freiman chapter of Hadassah-Wizo Council of Winnipeg. Belle was married to Sam for over 64 years. They had a great love for one another; they were partners in life and business. They established the Mannequin clothing store on Kelvin Street, and Debbs Millinery on Selkirk Avenue. They expanded the millinery shop to Portage Avenue, which continued to be very successful for over 30 years. Everyone who knew Belle enjoyed her wonderful sense of humour. Her jokes and sarcastic cracks were a source of joy and lessons in life. She took great pride in her family. The Bredin Drive home in East Kildonan was the center for family and friends, always filled with food, fun and laughter. She was a sports fan; the Bombers and the Blue Jays were her favourites. Belle has filled our lives with wonderful memories that we will cherish. She was a woman who celebrated life. She will remain in our hearts forever. The funeral was held on Tuesday, November 25 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Shiva was observed until Thursday, November 27. Pallbearers were Irwin Fine; Kimberly, Adam, Jamie Rosner; David Rosner, and George Saltzberg. Rabbi Alan Green and Cantor Anibal Mass officiated at the service. The family wishes to thank Dr. Elisabeth Giesbrecht, Esther, Maria, Lita and the many other caregivers. A special thank you to Lynne Fineman. A fund is established to honour the life of Belle Rosner at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba (477-7525).
