ANTONIN (TONY) DUHAMEL 1919 - 2003 Peacefully on Monday, November 24, 2003 at the Youville Nursing Home in Ste. Anne, MB. Antonin (Tony) Duhamel passed away with his family by his side. Tony was born April 7, 1919 in La Broquerie, MB. He was predeceased by his father Joseph; mother Constance (Pierson) two brothers, Louis and Adelard and two sisters, Josy and Adele. He leaves to mourn six nephews and four nieces and their families. Tony moved to Montmarte, SK at the age of one and then to Gravelbourg, SK where he grew up and graduated from the College Matthew. He received his degree of education at the University of Manitoba and post-graduate degrees at the University of Ottawa. He was a school teacher, principal and school inspector in many schools, rural communities and in Winnipeg until his retirement in 1983. In 1969 Tony proudly purchased 29 acres in Marchand, MB, affectionately known as "The Ranch" on the original Dawson Trail Road - travelled by his ancestors. Over the years he was active in the Knights of Columbus, St. Jean Baptiste Society, La Broquerie Church parish council and choir, liturgy co-ordinator, trustee and chairman of St. Jean Vianney Parish, Marchand, MB, member of Wildlife Association, "President of One-Eyed Peacock Association", member of Marchand Community Club and columnist for the Steinbach Carillon Reporter. The family wishes to thank Dr. Gobeil and the wonderful nursing staff at Youville for their care and compassion. A special thank you to Sister Irene Rioux for her love, songs and prayers for Tony. A prayer service will be held in Steinbach at Loewen Funeral Chapel on Thursday, November 27 at 7:30 p.m. The funeral mass will be held in the La Broquerie Roman Catholic Church on Friday, November 28 at 11:00 a.m. co-celebrated by Fr. Frechette, Fr. Leonel Demont O.M.I. and Fr. Gerald Labossiere O.M.I. officiating. Interment will follow in the local cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missionnaires Oblats de Marie Immaculee - 474, rue Aulneau, app. 300. Winnipeg (Manitoba) R2H 2V2.
