While she and her parents Catherine and Albert Klappstein and brother Harry lived in Havre, Montana, her father, a locomotive fireman was killed on the job. When Mom was four years old she and her mother and brother moved to Redvers, SK where her mother met and later married David Lutz. Our mother attended high school in Redvers, SK and went on to become a school teacher. While teaching in the Welwyn, SK district she met her future husband Lynn - they farmed in that area for many years. She returned to teaching in 1950 and began many years of studying towards her degree, attending University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon the final year to obtain her Bachelor of Education in 1964 at the age of 59. Mom, Dad and David moved to Moosomin, SK where she taught high school until retirement. She loved teaching and was dedicated to her students, many of whom still sent cards at Christmas and for special birthdays. Mom was an avid curler and sports enthusiast, be it hockey, football or baseball. She had season tickets to Saskatchewan Roughriders games in Regina for 25 years. She travelled to Silver Brooms all over the world. She and Dad motored from coast to coast. Mom made many trips to Hawaii with family - the last time when she was 89. In 1980 she moved to her apartment in Winnipeg to be near family and enjoy life in the city. At age 96 in March 2002, she moved to Thorvaldson Intermediate Care Center, a lovely place, where she enjoyed the cards and activities until the last few months. A special thanks to Mr. Thorvaldson, Shirley and staff for their care and kindness to our mother and to us, for the great meals and many extra cups of tea she was privileged to these past weeks. And thank you Grace for being there for Mom so many times. Our appreciation to Dr. R.J. Davey for his care through the years. A memorial service will be held on May 15, 2004 in Welwyn United Church, Welwyn, SK followed by interment of the cremains beside Dad in the Welwyn Cemetery. If desired, donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
