WALTER KARPIAK At the Holy Family Nursing Home, Walter Karpiak passed away peacefully on December 1, 2003 after a lengthy illness. He was 89 years old. Dad is predeceased by his wife Pearl and lovingly remembered by his daughters, Bernice and husband Mervin Sitka and Marlene and husband Buddy Chudy; his grandchildren, Karen and Ron Barbour, Kevin and Jennifer Sitka, Launey and Daniel Chudy and Kristy Chudy; his great-grandchildren, Cody and Connor Barbour, Madissen Sitka and Rylan Chudy; and his sister Mary Olchowy. Dad was born on October 2, 1914 in Arnes, MB. He was a very generous man who always put his family first. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he was always there to give a helping hand. Dad served in the airforce for four years being stationed in Nanimo, BC. He lived most of his life in St. Boniface. He was an extremely gifted shoemaker working for T. Eaton Company for forty years until his retirement. As a young man Dad loved all sports but baseball was one of his favourites, getting on his bike and riding one hundred miles just to play the sport. Dad had an active life. He loved hunting and was an avid fisherman spending many hours at his family cottage at Big Whiteshell Lake. He was a pioneer of his time, walking seven miles of bush trail before roads were even built just for a day of fishing. Dads sense of humour and witt always had his family laughing and keeping us on our toes. He was our "Archie Bunker" and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In accordance of Dads wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6 at 10:00 a.m. in P. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 156 Marion St. with Rev. Dr. Sharon Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the caregivers at Holy Family Nursing Home for their kindness, love and patience during Dads lengthy stay. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to Holy Family Nursing Home, 165 Aberdeen St., Winnipeg, MB R2N 1T9. P. COUTU & CO. Funeral Directors 156 Marion St., 949-4864
