During this time he coached basketball, directed choirs and built and renovated houses. Henry retired as a superintendent of schools for the Hanover School Division in 1983. Henry and Elda then spent seven years in the sunny Okanogan Valley where they made many friends in Osoyoos. For Dad, his faith and his family were the most important things in his life. He committed his life to the Lord at the age of 15. He treasured his church family, Bible studies, Gideon involvements and singing in male quartets. He loved family gatherings, debating big ideas, politics, playing numerous games (always keeping score). Dad also loved down hill skiing, curling and golf. His grandchildren will carry on the Henry handshake. The family sincerely thanks the medical staff of Concordia Hospital and Bethesda Hospital for their loving care. The funeral service will be held at the Mennonite Brethren Church, 2nd Street and Lumber, Steinbach on Sunday, December 7 at 1:30 p.m. Interment at Heritage Cemetery. Dear ones, my mother Helen Weiss told me of your dad's passing at the time it happened. I remember meeting Uncle Henry a couple times when our family traveled across Canada from Victoria, BC, to visit in the 1950's. My mother told me Uncle Henry had research our family tree/history coming from Russia and I would love to see his research. My mother told me she was born in Barnaul, Siberia, USSR (near Omsk), and their mother came from Georgia, Russia. If you can help me I'd love to hear from you. - Posted by: Gloria June Helen (Weiss) Kovacevich (Niece) on: Dec 21, 2013
