EDWARD ZALEWSKI On Tuesday, December 2, 2003, Edward passed away peacefully at the age of 85 at Concordia Hospital. Edward is survived by his loving wife, Leonida; his daughter, Basia Zale; and his beloved grandson, Tobiasz Osicki; his sister in Poland, Werka Wyczolkowska and many relatives and cousins in Poland. Edward was born in Serekomla, Poland on March 1, 1918. He was a proud veteran of the Second World War, having served in the Polish Army under British Command. Edward and Leonida were married in London, England on June 26, 1948 and in 1952, along with their daughter Basia, immigrated to Canada to start a new life. He was employed by General Motors of Canada Limited in Oshawa, ON for 25 years, retiring in 1974. He was the President of the Polish Veterans Association in Oshawa, ON for many years. Edward and Leonida moved to Winnipeg in 1989 in order to be close to their daughter Basia and grandson Tobiasz. He became a member of the Polish Combatants Association No. 13. Dad enjoyed traveling, and with Leonida at his side, drove across Canada from one coast to the other. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be terribly missed by his loving family and his wonderful friends in Winnipeg, Palmer Rapids, Toronto, and Oshawa, ON. Viewing will be held on Friday, December 5 at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave., starting at 9:30 a.m. with Holy Rosary at 10:00 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 10:30 a.m. with an Oblate Father officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. Special thanks to the compassionate care given by the nurses and staff at St. Josephs Residence, and at Concordia Hospital.
