Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN DAVID MERENCHUK June 26, 1918 - December 5, 2003 Suddenly, but peacefully at the age of 85, Dad passed away at Tudor Home. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 61 years, Elsie; two daughters, Zelda Greenwood (Larry), MaryAnn (Bill) Appleby; grandchildren, Susanne (Brent) McDuff, Isobel Greenwood (Brad) great-grandchildren, Thomas and Elizabeth McDuff, Cody and Brittany Greenwood. One sister Ann Homen; niece Ollie and her family; brother-in-law George Bray; nephew Pat (Bev). Dad was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Daisy and Margaret and brother-in-law Fred. Dad farmed all his life in the beautiful Assiniboine Valley near Lavenham, built and operated his own sawmill, did beautiful woodwork. They retired in the St. Andrews area in 1979, spent their winters in California where they owned a walnut farm. Many people knew of Dad and his walnuts. Dad could build, invent, repair or mend anything and could talk on any topic you mentioned to him. He worked a stint with the Manitoba Telephone System on the cable crews and for awhile as a crop inspector. He still put in a big garden up until a few years ago when it became too difficult as most of his time was caring for mom who needed him more. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 9 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk with Rev. Matthew Brough officiating. Interment to follow in the St. Michaels Roman Catholic Cemetery. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Suite 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. You did it your way, we love you. VICHNAYA PAMYAT Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
