EDWARD PETER SCHMIDT Edward Peter Schmidt died peacefully in Victoria on December 4, 2003, after a stoic battle with cancer. Eds fun-loving nature, generosity, and sense of humour will be greatly missed and warmly remembered by many, including his wife of 41 years, Myrtle; his children, Kelly (Lise), Jay, and Tracey (Paul) grandchildren, Sylvia and Eric; siblings, Rudy (Mert), Louise (Robert), and Peter (Jean) and many nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Margaret Schmidt of Winnipeg. Ed, a chartered accountant, retired as secretary-treasurer of Lethbridge School District No. 51 in 1995. He spent his retirement doing what he loved most, puttering at the cabin he lovingly built at Hidden Valley Resort in Alberta, golfing, and enjoying time with family and friends. Previously, Ed had worked in Calgary for Graham McCourt Architects, Mount Royal College, and the Calgary Board of Education. During his years in Calgary, Ed was actively involved in a service club for children, the Active 20-30 Club, and was an avid curler. As a young man, Ed served as a naval officer in the UNTD; as a teenager, he was a keen member of the Boy Scouts. The family extends a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Leah Norgrove and to the staff and volunteers at the Victoria Hospice and the British Columbia Cancer Agency for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Victoria Hospice Society, 1952 Bay St., Victoria, BC V8R 1J8. Condolences can be sent to the family at 206-327 Maitland St., Victoria, BC V9A 7G7. A celebration of Eds life will be held on December 10, at the Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
