MARION McKERLIE Marion McKerlie, formerly of Lions Manor, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on December 6, 2003. She was predeceased by her husband William McKerlie in 1975 and her granddaughter Shirley Miles in 1999, her brother Keith Stocks and her sister Jessie Pannebaker. She leaves to mourn her daughters, Iris (Raoul) McKay of Winnipeg and Elizabeth (Freeman) Miles of Summerside, PE; her brothers, Ivan (Dorothy) and Clarence (Jean) Stocks of Roland; sisters, Jennet Bell of Calgary, Eva Pedersen of Carman and Marguerite (Alan) McKnight of Winnipeg; and many nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren, Alan McKay of Hamilton, Monique McKay (Steve Roberts) of Kettering, OH, Celeste McKay (Larry Chartrand) of Ottawa and Peggy Miles of Summerside; and her great-grandchildren, Travis and Daniel McKay Roberts and Evan Chartrand will miss her dearly. Marion was born and lived the greater part of her life in the Myrtle/Roland area of Manitoba where she and her husband farmed. She was a member of Myrtle United Church, the Womens Institute, the Womens Auxiliary of Myrtle United Church, the United Church Women and the International Order of Foresters. Her community spirit was reflected in the work she did with these and other organizations. For several years, she played the piano at Myrtle Church for services and community events. In Winnipeg, she volunteered at Middlechurch Home and for the St. James community, calling seniors daily. Her family will cherish memories of her fondness for gardening, game playing and televised curling, and will miss her constant love, attention and tender care, her subtle sense of humour and her kindness and compassion. Donna Pratt and the Home Care workers of Lions Manor as well the staff of 4D, Health Sciences Centre, provided unstinting care and compassion during Marions illness for which her family is most grateful. Marions requested that her body be donated to the University of Manitoba for research. Should friends wish, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6, a cause close to her heart because of her granddaughter Shirley. A service of celebration of Marions life will be held at Roland United Church on Saturday, December 13 at 2:00 p.m.
