ROBERT (BOB) VEITCH Peacefully, on December 7, 2003 at the Selkirk General Hospital, Robert (Bob) Veitch, aged 81 years, of Selkirk, MB. Dad was predeceased by his eldest son Ian in the polio epidemic of 1953. Dad is survived by his loving wife of 60 years May; son Jim (Pauline) of Selkirk; and daughter Pat (Donald) Frederick of St. Albert, AB; grandsons, Jason Veitch (Michelle) of East Selkirk, Clayton Veitch (Ruth) of St. Andrews and Ian Frederick of St. Albert, AB. Bob was born in Glasgow, Scotland and he became a career airman. He joined the R.A.F. in 1941 and married Mum in 1943 and served through the war until 1946. Mum and Dad immigrated to Canada in 1948. Dad joined the R.C.A.F. in 1949 and served his country until his retirement in 1974, having achieved the rank of Master Warrant Officer. Dad was stationed in Winnipeg, Portage la Prairie, France, North Bay, Bagotville, Cold Lake and finally retiring in Winnipeg from the Armed Forces. Dads passion was avionics. In 1974 Mum and Dad moved to Thompson, MB where Dad worked for Lamb Air until he finally retired for good, settling in Selkirk in 1982. Dad was a kind and gentle soul whose wit and wonderful sense of humour will be sorely missed. Cremation has taken place and the interment will be held at a later date in the St. Clements Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Demsas and the nursing staff at the Selkirk General Hospital (Medicine Ward) for their loving care in Dads final days. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dads memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1L8. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
