CHRISTINA ASH Christina Ash died peacefully on December 7, 2003 at Golden Door Geriatric Centre with her daughter Joanne at her side. Her 91st birthday had been celebrated on November 12 with her grandson Dave and Joanne. Christina was predeceased by her husband Albert and daughter Lorraine. In 1928 Christina met and married Albert Ash. They remained happily married for 67 years. During their marriage they lived in Beresford Mines and Bissett (San Antonia Gold Mine), MB; Gunnar Mine and Saskatoon, SK. Finally, when Albert became ill, they moved to Winnipeg. They always had an open-door policy. As a result, they made many friends from around the world offering a home away from home to many young new Canadians who came to work in the mines. Christina loved both music and the outdoors and spent many hours enjoying them in a variety of ways. When Albert died, Christina moved into Richmond Gardens and finally the Golden Door Geriatric Centre. Christina felt blessed by the wonderful friends she made throughout her life. Christina leaves to celebrate her life, her daughter Joanne Wilson; grandson Dean Wilson (Cheri) and their children Derek and Katelyn, Norway House; and grandson Dave Wilson, Winnipeg; the Lichtys, Penticton, BC; the Dravnieks, Saskatoon; the Therriaults, La Ronge, SK; the Bormans, Edmonton, AB; her special friend Eileen Johnson who has always been there for her; and Konny Trus, who re-entered Joannes life and brought special comfort and joy to Christina. Her grandson Dave gave her much joy, laughter and care in the past year. The family extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. F. Salem for the special, gentle care he gave Mom and to the loving, caring and selfless staff at Golden Door. We also thank friends who visited, sent cards, notes and celebrated special times with her. A celebration of Christinas life will be held Saturday, December 13 at 1:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Norma Drosdowech officiating. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Golden Door Crafts in care of Golden Door Geriatric Centre or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
