JACOB W. SCHMIDT After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Jake Schmidt on December 7, 2003. Jake was born in Mexico on August 31, 1936 to John and Elizabeth Schmidt. He moved to Canada at the age of 18 when he made Winnipeg his home and worked as a mechanic for a few years, and later he bought a gravel truck and worked for Nelson River. His love was in driving long distance and he owned and operated his own semi and was employed by Swan River-The Pas Transfer and later Kingsway and Motorways. Jake drove truck for 28 years and was recognized by Mac Trucks for driving over 1 million miles. After selling his truck Jake bought a hobby farm in Ashern where he resided until his passing. He leaves to mourn his wife Donna; children, Jennifer, Ryan, Jeffrey and Juanita (Peter) Moske; grandchildren, Tyson and Shawna; brothers, Henry (Helen), John (Cathy) sisters, Betty Petkau and Anna Guenter (Hein), Tina Barkman (Martin) mother-in-law Eileen Jones; sisters-in-law, Iris Sinclair (Ralph), Violet Jones, Fran Kerbrat; stepbrother and stepsisters and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Elizabeth in 1951, father John in 1996, father-in-law Leonard Jones in 1988, and one brother Issac. A private family funeral service will be held. He will be sadly missed and live on through his daughter, Juanita, son-in-law Peter and grandchildren Tyson and Shawna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, in care of Julie Bergner, Box 721, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0, for use in the Palliative Care Unit.
