Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY SCHAEFER 1912-2003 Mary Schaefer, nee Weitzel, was called home to be with her Lord on December 8, 2003. She was born on September 30, 1912 in Winnipeg. Her growing-up years (until 14) were spent on a farm near Baldur, MB. On May 15, 1937 she married Albert Schaefer who died on January 5, 1984. She lived most of her life in Winnipegs north end and West Kildonan, living on Inkster Boulevard, Bannerman Avenue, 1080 Powers and finally Lions Manor. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church. Mary was an active member during her adult life at Immanuel Lutheran Church, and a charter member of Immanuels Lutheran Womens Missionary League. Mary especially enjoyed her family, crafts, sewing and painting. She spent many years sewing for her husband who was a furrier running his business out of their home. She is survived by two daughters, Doreen (Rev. Erno) Szedlak of Eau Claire, WI, and their daughters, Rebecca (Oliver)Young, Olivia and Benjamin of Minneapolis, MN, Sarah (Bob) Detlaff, Rachel, David and Hannah, Eau Claire, WI and Ruth (Latif) Gaba of Fort Wayne, IN and in Winnipeg, Norma (Dr. Ron) Austin, and their children, Colleen (David) Bilyk (nee Potapoff), Christopher and Katelyn, Mark (Heather) Potapoff and Cody and Trevor Potapof and three step-grandchildren, Pat, Ken and Linda Austin. She is also survived by two sisters, Elsie Dunfield of Ladylake, Flordia and Emma (George) of Winnipeg; and by sister-in-laws, Katherine Weitzel, Elsie Schaefer, Evelyn Schaefer; brothers-in-law, Walter Kaufman and Ed Koss, many nephews, nieces and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Fred Weitzel; and by five of her sisters, Tillie Kaufman, Teenie Iball, Molly Derrett, Eva Koss and Lydia Wilson. We wish to thank the staff at Lions Manor for their thoughtful and kind care of our mother since June 2000. A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church (King Edward at Inkster) at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 12 with a reception to follow. Rev. Jan Pastucha of Immanuel Lutheran Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2528 King Edward St., Winnipeg, MB R2R 2R2 or the charity of your choice.
