JOHN DAVID PAPE John David Pape, beloved husband of Rita Pape and cherished father of Michael, Jennifer and Adrian passed away suddenly on Monday, December 8, 2003 at the age of 48. He joins in heaven his father Jack. He has also left to cherish his memory his mother, Margaret; sister Elizabeth Grigg (Peter) brother Doug (Lesia) Ritas family, whom he loved as his own, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. John considered himself blessed to have realized so many of his dreams in life. After graduating from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Engineering Physics, he worked for Westcoast Energy in Vancouver BC. During his free time he learned to fly and it was this passion for flying that led him to a second career with the Canadian Armed Forces as a fighter pilot. He served with 409 Squadron in Baden-Baden and 410 Squadron in Cold Lake, AB. In 1989, John was hired by Air Canada and has flown with the company ever since. Receiving passengers into the cockpit, especially children, was a favourite aspect of his work. The new security measures subsequent to 9/11 were most grievous to him. John was an amazing father who adored his children. No matter what their goals were he always supported them and loved helping them make plans for their future. He was so proud of their accomplishments and no matter who he was talking to, he always had a great story about each of his children to share. His children will lovingly remember him for his strong hugs, great advice, and especially for somehow always knowing the answer to any and every question. John was a generous, kind and romantic husband whose memory Rita will forever cherish. You left us too soon, honey. But we know you will always be with us. We know you are at peace with God and that you are smiling at us and loving us more than ever. Thank you for the gift that you were to us all. Prayers will be said on Sunday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church, 135 John Forsyth Rd. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 15 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Gerry Ward the Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, if friends wish, donations in Johns memory may be made to Dreams Take Flight, 355 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2N2. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Remembering John today, again. The memory that comes to mind occasionally is of his smile as we exchanged greetings about halfway up the loading bridge in Winnipeg as he was arriving home and I was taking the airplane away next. That was the last time I saw him. I'm retired now. I miss the people as much as the airplanes, and John was one of the best, a delight to work with. - Posted by: Murray Bryson (Colleague) on: Mar 25, 2024
