EUGENE LLOYD (GENE) BALL On December 9, 2003, Gene Ball of Sherwood Park passed away with family by his side at the age of 83. Gene was the youngest child of the pioneer family of George and Lova Ball. Gene took his growing family north in 1946 to Yellowknife and Hay River, NWT, where he took up his 35 year career with the Federal Dept. of Fisheries. Work took the family next to Prince Albert, SK, then Winnipeg for several years. Gene transferred back to Edmonton in 1973, finally returning to Sherwood Park in 1988. He was a curler and softball player of considerable skill and loved his Indian Motorcycle. The family took camping, hunting and fishing trips, and in later years Gene and Bea enjoyed travelling together. Gene loved RVing, dancing, and a darn good laugh. He will be sorely missed. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Beatrice (nee Allen) sons, Lyle (Linda Mlodzinski) and Neil (Shirley Leontowicz) and grandsons, Nelson and Garnet, all of Winnipeg; daughters, Charlene of Edmonton and Marilyn (Wallace Murphy) of Osoyoos, BC; grandsons, Marsh and Shawn Murphy (Gerri Aiudi) and great-grandson Samuel Aiudi-Murphy, all of Edmonton; also survived by sisters, Edna Tracy and Florence Baron; sisters-in-law, Eileen Ball and Blanche (George) Butz; numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends. A prayer service will be held on Friday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home, south of Wye Road on Range Road 232, Sherwood Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 13 at 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 13 Brower Dr., with Rev. Wilf Murchland celebrant. Interment will follow at Glenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Capital Care Strathcona Campus, 12 Brower Dr., Sherwood Park, AB T8H 1V3.
