JEAN RITCHIE (KINDEFORA) (nee JANCZYN) It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Jean on the eve of Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at the Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg. Jean is survived by husband Walter; daughters, Ethel (Andy) Koshelanyk, Joyce (Harold) Schinkel, Lorraine (Gary) Hlady; grandchildren, Shannon (Jason) Howell, Lori (Nolan) Suss, Dean (Christie) Schinkel, Neal Hlady (friend Rhonda), Grant Hlady (friend Paula), Michelle Zieske (friend Patrick) great-grandchildren, Braden and Myles Howell, Kyla and Kendra Suss and Eric and Amber Schinkel; stepchildren, Marilyn (Bruce) Smyth, Lawrence (Marlene) Ritchie and their families; sisters, Sheila (John) Sheppard, Stella Smyrski; brother Barrie (Janice) Harfield; sisters-in-law, Victoria Janczyn and Lena Janczyn; 11 nieces and nephews and many cousins. Jean was predeceased by her first husband Paul Kindefora (1978) daughter Connie Zieske (1980) parents, Nick (1957) and Mary (1988) Janczyn; brothers, Rudolph (1995) and Walter (2003) son-in-law Larry Zieske (2002). Mom was born in the Brokenhead municipality on May 2, 1914, the eldest of six children. She married Paul Kindefora on June 24, 1934 and together they farmed and raised their family, also in the Brokenhead area. Farm life was difficult in the beginning and especially during the war years when rations were imposed and money scarce. Through hard work and perseverance, Mom and Dad maintained their farm and a good life for their family. As the years progressed and the family grew, Sundays, many times became the busiest day of the week especially for Mom preparing food as she looked forward to the kids coming home for the weekend. Sundays also brought other family and friends to visit. Everyone was always welcome and encouraged to come back soon. In 1985, after being widowed for seven years, Mom travelled to the Ukraine accompanied by her son-in-law Andy. On that trip she met and later married Walter Ritchie and became a resident of Winnipeg, MB. This October marked 18 years of marriage. In June 2003, Mom and Walter moved to Donwood Manor Apts. where she resided until her passing. Prayers will be held on Friday, December 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sobering Funeral Chapel, in Beausejour, MB. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 13 at 12:00 p.m. also at the Chapel, with the Very Rev. John Melnyk officiating. Interment to follow at the Greek Orthodox Cemetery.
