Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHANNA BERENDINA SMID (nee BOMHOFF) Knowing the love of her family, Johanna left this world peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2003 with her family by her side. Mom was born in Heerlen, the Netherlands on November 26, 1918. She married Roelof Smid on November 16, 1939, and in June 1951, with their four children, they immigrated to Canada, settling in Transcona. Mom was predeceased by her husband Roel of 57 years and by all of her six siblings. She will be lovingly remembered by her six children, Frances (Henry) Kunkel, Audrey (Adolph) Vaags, Harm (Jackie), Rita (John) Kruizenga, Margaret (Paul) Bisson and Lorie (Kerry) Rohloff; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; dear sister-in-law Janny Bomhoff; as well as many nieces and nephews, and numerous relatives in the Netherlands, Alberta and British Columbia. Mom will always be remembered for her hospitality, loving kindness, quintessential mothering and her deep faith in God. She also enjoyed travelling, camping, nature, going on outings with her children, as well as reading and playing games. Visiting with her neighbours at East Park Lodge also brought her pleasure. The family wishes to thank Pastor Richard Zekveld and all the family and friends who all came to see her regularly since she entered the hospital on August 13, 2003. Also thanks to Dr. Nicole Allegro and the staff of Concordia Hospital for their care and compassion. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Johannas memory may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, P.O. Box 247, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2G9. Funeral service will be held at the Transcona Christian Reformed Church, 131 Victoria Ave. W. on Saturday, December 13 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. You were always there when we needed you, No task too great or small With a loving heart and willing hand For us you did them all. Thanks for the times we shared. We only pray when you left us You knew how much we cared. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be, He put His arms around you And said, "Come unto Me." Forever in our memories, Your children. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematorium Hwy. #1 E. at Navin, 222-3241
