VELVA RIVERS SMITH (nee HODGES) On December 10, 2003 at Concordia Hospital, Velva passed away at age 85. Grandma Smith, as she was commonly known, has completed her race and will be spending Christmas with Jesus this year. She is survived by her daughter Margo (Arnold) MacRae, Glen Sandfield, ON; sons, Edward Smith, Pakenham, ON, and Allen (Peggy) Smith of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Keith (Heidi) MacRae of Glen Sandfield, Marnie (Wayne) Roy of Ottawa, Judy (Scott) Cameron of Almonte, Tim (Laurie) Smith of Smiths Falls, Andy (Jenny) Smith of Winnipeg, Suzanne Smith of Vancouver, Sarah, Mary and Mark Smith of Winnipeg; and her great-grandchildren, Brock and Kayla Smith and Kristen MacRae. She is further survived by her sisters, Eva Carriere, Esther Miller, Anne McCausland; and brother Erwin (Muriel) Hodges all of Ottawa. Velva was predeceased by her husband Clifford John Smith (Pakenham) granddaughter Andrea Smith (Winnipeg) parents, Charles and Addie Hodges (Cumberland) and brothers, Hubert Hodges (Clinton), Clair Hodges (Ottawa) and Wesley Hodges (Cumberland). She will be sadly missed by her extended family and many friends in Winnipeg, Ottawa and Pakenham (Cedar Hill), ON. Funeral service will be held Sunday, December 14, at 4:00 p.m. at Albright Church, 3400 DeVries Ave., Winnipeg. Viewing at 3:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will take place later in December at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Pakenham.
