FREDERICK LIONEL JAMES STOCK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fred Stock, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. After suffering a stroke on December 7, Dad passed away peacefully with his family at his side, at the Grace Hospital on December 10, 2003 at the age of 80. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Ann and Frederick Stock, and leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Rose; his only son Frederick (Linda) his four grandchildren, Richard (Chantha), Kelly, Timothy and Kimberly and his great-grandson, Liam. He will be greatly missed by his brother John and his sisters, Ivy Stock and Winnifred Greenwood, all in England. Dad was born in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, England on December 2, 1923. He served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, and it was while stationed at Dafoe Air Force base in Saskatchewan that he met the love of his life, Rose Helen Kreba, whom he later married on February 5, 1944. Dad served the next three years of the war in Burma, returning to Canada October 15, 1947, where he and his wife made their home in Winnipeg. He found work with Scott Bathgate, with whom he was employed for the next 40 years until his retirement March 31, 1988. Dad and Mom enjoyed their retirement years fishing, camping, travelling and following the harness race circuit. They made several trips to England to visit family, and though distance separated them, Dad always remained close with his family there. Dad loved to dance, and he and Mom could dance up a storm. He loved a good card game and was always happy surrounded by friends and family. He taught his grandchildren how to play cards, and they taught him how to play Nintendo and computer games. Liam will miss playing with his Great-Poppa. Dad will be remembered for his kind nature, his infectious laugh, and his warm smile. The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital for their kind and compassionate care of Dad and for the comfort and support they offered our family. We also thank Chapel Lawn Funeral Home for their support. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I learned a lot from my Uncle Fred, on his trips to the UK we always went Greyhound racing at Walthamstow dog track, and strangely played a lot of cards. I last saw him when he visited Enfield staying with my Auntie Ivy when I was in my 20's over 40 years ago. He was a lovely gentle man with a great sense of humour. Since this was last posted I lost my dad his brother John Stock, and both Ivy and Winnifred have also passed. Its good to see he is remembered so fondly. - Posted by: John Stock Junior (Uncle) on: Apr 16, 2019
