Date of Passing: Dec 10, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER TYCHONICK Suddenly at home, surrounded by family and his beloved wife Irene, Peter passed from this life into the next on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at the age of 90. Predeceased by his sisters, Netta, Marion; and most recently his brother Alec Tychonic on November 24, 2003, Peter leaves to mourn his wife Irene, to whom he was married 66 years, sister Estelle, son Roger Tychonick (Joan), daughter Joan Ewasko (Ernie), granddaughter Tannys Ewasko and grandson Russ Tychonick (Josie Marques). Peter was born on Victoria Avenue East in Transcona, MB on December 25, 1912 and later built his own house on the very same street, where he lived his entire life. At the age of 12, he dropped out of school to drive a team of horses to support the family during challenging times. In 1937, Peter married the love of his life, Irene Devodder and began raising a family shortly thereafter. Possessed of an incredible work ethic, he spent much of his life in the grocery business, working for Louis Davis at the Red and White for 25 years and then opening Peters Foods in 1953. In the 1970s he ran the gas bar and drove the parts truck at Transcona Motors, which allowed him to indulge in his passion for automobiles of every type. Peter was renowned by friends and neighbours for his ability to keep the area sidewalks and streets immaculately clean, no matter how poor the conditions. His three loves in life were his family, his cars and horses, and not necessarily in that order. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, December 15 at 1:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St., with Paul Martin officiating. As an expression of sympathy, donations, in Peters memory, may be made to the Transcona Springfield Education Foundation, in care of B.A. Saunders, 589 Roch St., Winnipeg, MB R2K 2P7. "The wagon rests in winter, the sleigh in summer, the horse never."
