She was born on March 23, 1931 into the home of Julius and Elizabeth Klassen, in the village of Chortitz, MB. Of 10 children, Betty, along with her twin sister Nettie were the fifth and sixth born. Betty received her education, for the first four years, in Chortitz and continued it in Roland, MB. In March of 1945, Betty accepted the Lord Jesus as her Savior and in September, that same year, was baptized at the Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church. She also attended one year at the Winkler Bible School. Many of Bettys years were spent working fulltime while raising four children on her own, two sons, Donald and Leslie and two daughters, Beverly and Karen. Happy times included her fondness for the outdoors, involving camping and gardening. Her generosity could be seen by the way she spent her spare time, which was making others happy. Betty was predeceased by her former husband, parents and two brothers. She is mourned by her longtime companion Frank, her four children and their spouses, Don (Bonnie), Les (Kelly), Bev (Dan), Karen (Joe) as well as four grandchildren, Shane, Aric, Korey and Breanne. She is survived by three sisters and four brothers, along with their families. A public visitation will be held at Green Acres on Tuesday, December 16 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church in Winnipeg, 1420 Portage Ave., officiated by Pastor Claude Pratte and assisted by Rev. Gerhard Friesen. She will be laid to rest at Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Flowers or donations will be accepted at Green Acres or Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church.
