PATRICK MCLAUGHLAN Pat passed away at Surrey Memorial Hospital in Surrey, BC on November 24, 2003 where he had been on vacation and had attended the wedding of his grandson. He was predeceased by his parents Flora and Francis McLaughlan, sister Mary Harrison, wife Jessie Davidson McLaughlan in 1991 and Grandson Kyle German of St. Andrews on October 7, 2003. Pat was born May 31, 1925 in Perth, Scotland where he spent his youth. He was very proud of his Scots heritage and over the years entertained family and friends with his trained tenor singing voice and wry sense of humour. At age 18 Pat chose to serve his country by enlisting in Royal Navy during the Second World War. Following that, he came to Canada in the 1950s with his lifelong buddy Willie Blues. The two lads having visions of a new life, landed and lived in Ocean Falls, BC where they worked at the Paper Mill. Before long they moved to Manitoba, settling in St James, where they found family and made many new friends. Pat was a longtime member in good standing at the St. James Legion No. 4, where he and Jessie had been very active participants in Legion activities, particularly the game of darts, winning many trophies over the years. Pat had also over the last year made good friends at the Lions Manor where he resided after selling his home in St. James. His strong voice will be missed by the Lions Manor Choir and his good humour and easy manner will also be missed on the Residents Council. He is fondly remembered by: his stepdaughter Gina German and husband Bob of Selkirk, MB, stepson Bill Hobson and wife Carole in Delta, BC, sisters: Florence and Margaret in Australia, Francis in England and Helen in Scotland as well as grandsons: Brian German in Toronto, Craig German in Winnipeg, Josh Hobson, Brad Hobson in Delta, BC and granddaughter Kelly Hobson in Vancouver, BC. Uncle Pat will be a part of the memories of his nieces: Tootsie & Erna Wilkie, nephews: Robert & Brian Wilkie, Brian & Gordon Harrison as with other cousins in Australia. Memorial service will be held at the St. James Legion, top floor, 1755 Portage Avenue at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday December 16, followed by a lunch at the Legion. Please come and join us in a remembrance of Pats life. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. granddaughter-in-law Rhonda, niece Vivian and nephew Ron Mace.
