KATHERINE ALEXANDRA MONKMAN (KATHY or JO) Born May 21, 1944, to Tom and Martha Monkman. First grandchild of Hugh and Kate Monkman. Kathy loved music, dancing, reading and visiting family. She especially loved to visit her aunties and uncles, visit different cities in Canada and the United States, going to the farm and the lake - giving us details when she visited - leaving us with many memories. Working in Pine Falls and Winnipeg as a hairdresser brought her much joy. Rainbow Rugs, Gasbards, Olympic Sportswear are some of the sewing factories at which she worked. Kathy was always thoughtful and kind, keeping in touch with family near and far, especially at Christmas time - everyone got a card. Visiting the sick in hospital or at home, she would tell her funny stories, cheering you up. Helping people shop for a fair deal or just buying for them was a pleasure. Being with Auntie Joe for weekends or on holidays has left many happy memories for her nieces and nephews. The many card games, stories, baking and, of course, the shopping. Schizophrenia took away her ability to work and manage everyday life, but we cherish and thank God for the time we had with her. Left to cherish her memory are sisters, Betty (Roy) and Doreen (Edgar) brothers, Monty (Yvonne) and Stanford (Sandra) nieces and nephews, Joan; Norma (Danny) Cindy and Amber; Dale (Sherry), David and Chris; Leslie (Monika), Jolene and Todd; Tessa, Sandra (Jay) Adrian; David (Alison) Sean; Kyle (MaryAnn) Jamie and Dharma; Kristen, Kelvin (Julie) Kirsten; Jennifer (Paul) Josh and Jordan. She was predeceased by her mother Martha; father Tom; and niece Christine. A private graveside service was held December 5 at Loon Straits, MB, with Neill Von Gunton officiating. The family would like to thank Wes and Rob of Gilbarts Funeral Home for the loving and compassionate care and help above and beyond. May God richly bless you. "There will always be a heartache, And often a silent tear, But always precious memories Of when you were here."
