EDITH MARY LILLIAN SMART (nee COOKE) 1907 - 2003 Mrs. Smart passed away peacefully on December 10, 2003, at the age of 96 years. To remember how much she cared for them in life she leaves behind her daughter Jane Potter of the City of York in the U.K.; her son Robert of Winnipeg and her three grandchildren, Richard Potter, a resident of Bahrein and Colin Smart and Lauren Paquette of Winnipeg; along with a great-granddaughter Breanne Paquette. Mrs. Smart was born in London, resided in Edinburgh but immigrated to Canada after the war in 1948 with her husband, a road contractor and two children. After that, Mrs. Smart and her family lived in Vancouver, Regina and Winnipeg. During that time she experienced both good times and times of adversity but always managed to persevere without complaint. Everybody who met her was always impressed by her gentleness and concern for others. In fact, she could not answer a question about what she wanted without turning it around and asking what the other person wanted instead. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at McNally Robinson on Grant Avenue who went out of their way to look after her (the "Tea Lady") for the last seven years and the wonderful nursing staff at Misericordia Place.
