Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVIOLET HELENA WEIR October 4, 1911 - December 12, 2003 After a courageous battle with cancer, Violet passed away at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 92 years. Violet was born in Dauphin, Manitoba, and developed an early interest in sports such as curling, speed skating, hockey and badminton. She went on to take a business course and spent many of her working years as a Stenographer with the Canadian Pacific Railway in Winnipeg. Her skating continued with Ice Dancing at the Winnipeg Winter Club. Violets other passions included extensive travel, a great love of the performing arts and her work in needlepoint and knitting. Her love of sports and appreciation of talent led her to dedicate a large portion of her time to volunteer work. These included the Pan-Am Games, where she enjoyed the recognition of being named the most senior volunteer. Many dedicated hours were spent as a volunteer at the Manitoba Theatre Centre, Warehouse Theatre, the Concert Hall and Winnipeg Fringe Festival. Violet was predeceased by her parents, Nobel and Isabella Weir, sister Vivian, and brothers Leslie and Mervin. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Norma, nephews Ray, Ken and Tom, nieces, Maureen and Bonnie, as well as many great-nephews and nieces. Cremation has taken place, and in compliance with Violets wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. The family would like to express our thanks to Dr. Garcia and the wonderful staff on three East at Riverview Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., R3C 2B7. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
