EDWARD A. ENGLOT After a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family, Edward A. Englot, aged 81, passed away at his residence on Sunday, December 14, 2003. Edward is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Dorothy; daughter Lynne (Ray) Malazdrewicz and their children Ryan, Kristen (Jeremy) Miller, and Cameron; and daughter Dianne (Al) Brockmeyer. He is further survived by one sister, Elsie (Claude) Shields, St. Albert, AB.; brothers Swany Englot of Beausejour, MB. and George (Bernice) Englot of Burnaby, B.C. and sisters-in-law, Ruth (Gord) Kaatz, Leona Schwartz, Gertie Moss. Ed was born and raised in Beausejour, Manitoba on March 29th, 1922. He served in the RCAF at Trenton, and on the Alaska Highway. In 1944 he returned to Beausejour and became a partner in Beck Motors and began his life-long career in machine service and repair. In the fall of 1949 he met his wife Dorothy and married her in 1950, together raising two daughters, Lynne and Dianne. During his working career Ed was employed by Prairie Equipment, Pacific Inland Express (PIX), and Construction Equipment Company (CEC). He then owned Eds Cartage and Sentinel Construction and worked throughout Manitoba on both road and bridge construction. In 1970, Ed became employed by the DEW LINE and spent 8 years working in the Arctic. When he returned home he worked in refrigeration and heating. Upon retirement at age 65 he continued with his life passion to fix or repair. He was affectionately known as Mikey as Mikey could fix anything. His favourite saying was, I can fix anything but a broken heart. His favourite sport while growing up in Beausejour was hockey, and he quickly became recognized as a tenacious player. He was respected by his teammates, and feared by his opponents. Ed was known by all as Inky at this time. Ed enjoyed his friends and family, travelling (in particular to Hawaii, Grand Forks and Fargo), playing crib and participating in living life. In 2000 Ed was first diagnosed with Cancer and was told the disease would never kill him. In February of 2003 the Cancer became untreatable and pain management his only option. He lived each day with hope. We will remember Ed best for his smile, and his humorous quips, his charm and his continuing efforts to help others. The family wishes to thank Palliative Care, particularly Dr. Mike Harlos, Lorena McManus, Christine Newell, Tracey Legary, Dr. Burton Abbott and Florence Misurka and also Jennifer Winters, all who valued the inherent worth, dignity and respect for Ed and his family and valued the importance of hope. Further thanks go to Dr. Brian Rumbolt and Cindy (nurse) from the Assiniboine Clinic and to the many neighbours, family and friends who have shown extraordinary compassion. A Celebration of Edwards life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2003 at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. with Pastor Ronald Nelson officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the WRHA Palliative Care Program Donation Fund, A-8024-409 Tache Ave., R2H 2A6 or to the Christmas Cheer Board. TO THOSE I LOVE AND THOSE WHO LOVED ME When I am gone, release me, let me go... I have so many things to see and do, You mustnt tie yourself to me with tears; Be happy that we had so many years. I gave to you my love, you can only guess How much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown, But now its time I travelled on alone. So grieve a while for me if grieve you must; Then your grief be comforted by trust. Its only for a while that we must part, So bless the memories within your heart. I wont be far away, for life goes on; So if you need me, call and I will come. Though you cant see me or touch me, Ill be near And if you listen with your heart, youll hear, All of my love around you soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way alone, Ill greet you with a smile and say, welcome home. Author unknown KLASSEN Funeral Chapel 1897 Henderson Hwy. North of McIvor - 338-0331
