She was born in Cypress River on June 30, 1920 as Catherine Isabel Campbell. She was the oldest of seven children and even though her father died when she was ten, they continued to live on the family farm near the river at Cypress River. She began her working career at the early age of 15, working as a maid and nanny in many homes in Winnipeg and her home area. It was while she was working for a family in Elgin that she met her future husband, James Douglas Stuart. Cassey and Doug were married on November 27, 1947 in Cypress River. In 1954, feeling that they needed to settle down on a place of their own they bought a place at Bunclody and farmed there with their two sons, Don and Mel. Cassey was a hard worker and spent many hours on her big garden. She enjoyed baking bread and canning, and community functions especially at the Bunclody School. They boarded the teacher for quite a few years as well. After 23 years of farming they retired to Souris in 1977 where Cassey started her Tupperware business. This she thoroughly enjoyed. She also enjoyed being a part of the Rebekahs holding all the chairs at some point. She was very fond of driving her car and took many friends for drives just for fun. She also liked to drive to Cypress River and Killarney to visit old friends as well as regularly driving out to see family. She is survived by her two sons Don (Helen) Stuart of Carroll and their children, Lorelei, Roxie (Mike) Hiebert and their children, Cate and Brooklyn, Chad, Jessica, Tiffany, James, and Eddy; Mel Stuart of Selkirk, daughter-in-law Judy Stuart of Brandon and their children Jodie, Keith, Tara and daughter Peyten. She is also survived by her brother Jim (Shirley) Campbell of Carmen and their families; sister-in-law Carrie of Medicine Hat; brother-in-law Gerald (Gert) Stuart of Swift Current and their family; and sisters Grace and Margarets families and many cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Doug in February 1983; sisters, Grace and Margaret; brothers, Bill, Alec and Myles; brothers-in-law, Rod Stuart and Don Stuart; and sister-in-law Leone Stuart. In Casseys memory, donations may be made to Souris Hospital Palliative Care or to the Canadian Cancer Society. KOWALCHUKS FUNERAL HOME, Souris, MB in care of arrangements.
