DAVID STARR Peacefully, at the St. Boniface Hospital after a short and courageous battle with cancer, David passed away at the age of 72 years on December 17, 2003 with his family at his side. David was predeceased by his parents, Walter (Cook) Chief and Emma Starr; two brothers, Kenneth and John Chief; and his aunt Ethel Artinovich. David will be remembered by his sisters, Arlene Spence, Mabel Spence, Linda Thomas (Clarence), Delores Chief Abigosis (Wilfred), Lorrayne Chief Kegl (Frank), Brokenhead Ojibway Nation, Clara Starr (Don), Anita Spence, Winnipeg, Shirley Ryerson (Jeff), Salt Lake City, UT; and brother Douglas Spence (Connie), Brokenhead Ojibway Nation; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation home care staff, nurse Dan Wiebe and Kathy Monkman and the staff of the St. Boniface Hospital, for their care and support. Also, the family wishes to extend a very special thank you for the loving care that his sister and friend Mabel gave to David while he was at home, she will sadly miss him. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, (today), December 20 at the Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk, MB at 11:00 a.m. Interment is to follow at the Roman Catholic Church Cemetery at the Brokenhead Ojibway First Nation. Lunch will follow at the Private Matthew Sinclair Elders Lodge. Pallbearers will be Frank Kegl, Tim Spence, Faron Starr, Don Finlayson, Terry Finlayson and Dennis Rieck. Donations, in lieu of flowers can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R0E 1W0. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
